Manipal: AIESEC Manipal organized Balakalakar, a day of entertainment for the under privileged children from Manipal, Udupi and Mangalore at the TMA Pai Amphitheatre on September 28.
‘Balakalakar has been conceptualized to show underprivileged children a good time and let them know that they have so many people to look up to’, said AIESEC President Siddharth Mohan. The day started off with a jive, and all the children came up on stage to dance. This was followed by Blitzkrieg, a Manipal Institute of Technology based dance crew, performing for the children. A drawing competition and talent show were held for all the children, to showcase their talents, and there was also a Bouncy Castle for them to play on. ‘I have never played on those big castles and I love to dance. I really enjoyed myself and don’t want to go back home’, says Krishna from Udupi.
The teacher guardians also joined the children in their games. ‘I feel like I am reliving my childhood’, said Ramesh Mallya, one of the guardians. ‘This was better than our last Balakalakar event, as this was held on a scale of 350 children. We got good sponsorship and this gives us a hope for better events in the future’, said Vivek Menon, the sponsorship head for the event.
