‘Jana Samparka’, an initiative by the Udupi District Police with support from the District Administration, the Zilla Panchayat and the Forest Department was a platform for the residents of Naxal prone areas such as this village of Ajekaru to put forward their grievances to officials. This meeting took place on August 2.
Residents voiced their problems concerning issues such as lack of healthcare, poor infrastructure of roads and communication networks and a shortage of teachers at the primary school level. They handed over letters to the officials listing their grievances.
The District Commissioner, M.T. Reju promised redressal of their issues, while the Superintendent of Police, Dr. Y.S. Ravikumar said the police stationed in the Naxal-prone areas will be better equipped to deal with issues and that the rehabilitation program for surrendered Naxals will be supported with education and employment opportunities.
