MANIPAL: A second year student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) committed suicide on Tuesday, October 9 by jumping from the sixth floor of A1 Apartments at MIT campus. The student was pursuing a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE).
Sridhar Nambiar, Sub-Inspector at Manipal Police Station, in a telephonic conversation, told The Manipal Journal that the suicide had taken place at around 11:20 am, when the deceased jumped down from the sixth floor of the building, which is a faculty quarters building.
A Campus Patrol officer, who reached the site immediately after the accident, said, “The guard on duty got a call that a student had attempted suicide. He was immediately rushed to Kasturba Medical College (KMC) where he was declared dead.”
The 19-year-old is a native of Hyderabad and stayed in 14th Block at MIT Hostels.
At the time of publishing, the police were in the process of investigation and awaiting the post-mortem report.
