Manipal: Students from Manipal University gathered to raise their voices against drugs in a ‘Stay Safe Walk’ on February 9 at Kamath Circle. It was organised by the Rotaract Club of Manipal in association with the Student Council of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT).
Around 150 students from the various institutions of Manipal University turned up for the walk. Gaurav Karnik, a 3rd year MIT student and Vice President of the Rotaract Club said, “Lately things have gone beyond the limit. So we decided to take the first step towards trying to influence the students. We wanted to spread awareness about substance abuse and we will always try to be there and help students.”
Carrying placards with anti-drug slogans, the students marched from Kamath Circle (KC) till Tiger Circle. After an hour long walk, they came back to KC where they lit candles and expressed their condolences in memory of the deceased.
Ritwik Prakash(name changed), a 3rd year MIT student said, “It is upsetting to see people of my age letting drugs influence their lives. Although the turn out could have been much more, it still feels great to see the students raising their voices for a good cause.”
