Manipal: The Udupi district police arrested two students of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for engaging in the possession and distribution of illegal drugs at Kamala House, Eshwar Nagar, Manipal on August 12.
The police have seized approximately 1.712 kg of marijuana (ganja) and a measuring scale from the arrested, as proof of them being engaged in the process of dealing marijuana.
The students behind bars have been identified as Suyash Srivastava and Manas Kaushik. The police are still searching for Paritosh who is absconding. It has been reported that he was also involved in the dealing of drugs along with the arrested students. The accused were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the police.
“The apprehended students and the one absconding were dealing together with 50 residents in Manipal,” said the Circle Police Inspector (CPI) of Manipal Police Station.
Through the arrested students, Suyash and Manas, the police found 16 more students who were regular buyers of illegal substances from them. On being tested, these students were found positive for the consumption of marijuana.
Presently, the police are filing an FIR for the same and sending a report to the university for them to take action against the accused students.
