On walking through the rusty gates of the hostel, one realises the effect of time on the structure. While the exterior looks old and dilapidated, the interior seems discomforting as well. The flaking of paint, the grubby windows and the rank odor hauls you back in time.
Established over 50 years ago with initial basic funding by the government, the Working Women’s Hostel provides shelter to as many as 100 working women in and around Manipal. Located bang opposite the Manipal Life Sciences Centre, the structure is now under the Academy of General Education.
The Academy of General Education is a sister organisation of Manipal University and runs educational institutes in various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
